We are a member of the CHA "The Canine Hydrotherapy Association (CHA) is a UK based organisation that is non-profit making and whose aims are to provide self-regulation and set benchmark standards of treatment, operation, training, supervision, first aid, record keeping and water quality for all our members. We will also conduct research in to canine hydrotherapy and welcome enquiries or contributions from any interested party in this respect. In this way Veterinary Surgeons, Pet Insurance Companies and - most importantly the dog owner - can use a CHA member pool in confidence." What is Hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy is a treatment carried out in warm water 27 - 28
degrees Celsius which can have an extremely good, and beneficial result in the
healing process of a great many problems that can affect your dog. It has it's
roots firmly placed in Greek origins and has been used for many thousands of
years to treat a very wide variety of ills, pains, injuries and other problems,
some of which are itemised below:-
* Pain relief
* Reducing swelling and stiffness
* Strengthening weakened Muscle
* Increasing the range of motion in joints
* Improving circulation
* Improving heart and lung fitness
* Reducing weight in obese dogs
When should I use Hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy can be used to amazing effect before
an operation to increase muscle mass to help with speedy healing after the operation.
It can be used after an operation to help speed the healing process, i.e. build up the muscles again and get
your dog back to peak fitness quickly and
To help your dog recover from an injury or accident, Hydrotherapy can prove
invaluable.
Whenever your vet recommends it, then that is the right time.
If your dog is over weight and requires some help in losing the extra pounds,
look no further.
It is also exceedingly useful just for giving your dog extra exercise whilst
getting him into tip top condition.
Ideal for show dogs to get that last bit of muscle tone and fitness
How does it work?
When you put your dog into a warm bath of water, his Skin temperature
will rise, his blood vessels will expand and this will enable his muscles to
relax, thus reducing any pain or muscle spasm. Any stiffness in movement, usually
caused by swelling or pain, often related to arthritis can be reduced quite
considerably.
The pressure of the water can also have a reducing effect on any swelling by
helping to move fluids away from affected areas. This will enable the dog to
swim in the water more painlessly, which in turn helps to exercise muscles that
would not normally be used, including the heart and lungs, this helps to pump
more oxygen around the body to areas that need it.
How long does
the treatment take?
The length of time will vary from dog to dog, but generally from
just maybe one minute swimming for the first treatment, increasing
up to as much as 20 minutes as the dog's fitness and health improve. If you
are treating your dog purely for stamina and fitness, then a little more time
will be allowed at the start. Please remember, a 10 minute swim is very similar
to a 10 mile brisk walk for your dog. and very few dogs are given a ten mile
walk in one go, so a short minute swim will be quite a tiring experience to
begin with, but exceedingly rewarding..
Will you keep my vet informed of the progress our dog makes?
Yes, there will be regular feedback to your vet, and your vet
can contact us for any information at any time during working hours.
How do I book my dog in?

Ask your vet to sign one of our forms to show us that your dog is deemed suitable
for treatment and sign your own Client's form. To obtain these forms please click on the links in the box below
Ring us for an appointment (Please remember, it will take a minimum of 3 treatments before any real progress is made) When you bring your dog for it's 1st treatment we will need to see a valid vaccination certificate. We regret, treatment will not be undertaken without a certificate.
What equipment do you have?
The main piece of equipment is the 10x5 hot pool, kept at a temperature
of 27-28 degrees. The waters are constantly monitored to ensure the quality
is maintained in tip top condition. To enable less mobile dogs to enter the
pool safely and painlessly we have an overhead hoist to help them in and out.
